Mount Two Top
The Mount Two Top trail has all the features
that make it one of the most visited destinations. It is well groomed
and an excellent choice for a day trip for novices to experts. From
West Yellowstone, the trail is the same as going to Lionhead, however
you have more choices. Most of the trail is a big loop with plenty of
extra riding room off the beaten path. The Two Top trail is also the
gateway to the expansive Idaho trail system. Be sure to check with the
Idaho grooming schedule if you decide to continue on past Two Top.
Once you reach the top of Mount Two Top
you have the option of riding numerous bowls but a word of caution -
know where you are. The drop offs with their overhanging drifts are
extremely dangerous and every year claim their victims. Try
to go with a guide, a local or just be safe and use common sense. As
mentioned in the Lionhead trail, you're on your own, at your own risk.
This is not a ski resort. No one to bail you out so be safe to come
back another day.
Be sure to bring you're lunch and your
video stuff. One of the features at the top of the divide are the snow
ghosts that remain until the weather get well above freezing. On a clear
day you might be treated to the Grand Tetons and a panoramic view of
the entire region.
This is truly a must visit
on your snowmobile vacation to West Yellowstone. The uniqueness of riding
on virgin powder is everywhere which is a welcome relief to the confines
of the trail system in Yellowstone National Park. From Mount Two Top,
many enthusiasts venture on into the Idaho trails where refueling is
available at Valley View.
